ISI Yogyakarta Lecturer Invited as Guest Lecturer at Asia Institute, The Faculty Arts, Melbourne University Australia

On September 1, 2021, one of the lecturers who also serves as Chair of the Art Management Study Program, Faculty of Fine Arts, ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Mikke Susanto, MA. was invited as a guest lecturer to give a lecture at the Asia Institute, The Faculty Arts, Melbourne University Australia. This invitation was initiated by Dr. Edwin Jurriens who teaches the course "Creative Industries in Indonesia" (Subject code INDO30002). The lecture was specifically aimed at students of the course to look at the development of creative industries through cases in Indonesia.

The lecture, which was limited to undergraduate students from two study programs, discussed the relationship between President Sukarno, social history and the creative industry. There are many interesting things to study even though the topic is very specific and centered on the figure of Indonesia's first president. The material ranged from who Sukarno was, his collections, the effects on art in society, to the development of post-collection ideas. Even public creativity was a concern in the material presented by Mikke Susanto.

This bilingual lecture also discusses the extent of Sukarno as an art patron. His presence as a patron collector set an example that gave birth to various interesting records. Apart from being a politician, warrior, writer and president, Sukarno always thought aesthetically. For him, art was not just art. Art and works of art were able to open his airy mind. Art and works of art as catharsis as well as tools of struggle. Therefore, Sukarno never once left anything creative until the end of his life.

Cooperation between the two campuses is considered very important for students. Both campuses, which are in the field of arts and humanities, need to continue to contribute to research and problem solving in the world. The world of creative industries that is growing faster in a country is a very interesting case to be examined with different perspectives, for example through different approaches between countries. Hopefully, this lecture can serve as an example of cooperation between educational institutions between countries in the present and future.
