This seminar was organized as a response to the world of higher education in the arts to the pandemic that has not yet ended and the society that is entering a new normal life. Are artists and art education institutions able to lead a "new normal"? Can we agree together on the "new normal" life? And how much art can be used as a means towards a pandemic and "new normal" life, or maybe we have actually entered it naturally? That is what a number of presenters discussed.
The seminar was filled with the delivery of the keynote speaker by the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta Prof. Dr. M. Agus Burhan, M.Hum. as well as 3 speakers namely Dr. Miroto (ISI Yogyakarta Teaching Staff), Tommy F. Awuy (Philosopher) and Garin Nugroho (Cultural observer / filmmaker) and guided by moderator Dr. Mikke Susanto, MA (ISI Yogyakarta Teaching Staff).
Prof. Dr. M. Agus Burhan, M.Hum. said that the pandemic caused the number of performances and exhibitions to decrease. However, art continues to find its way to continue to carry out artistic activities so that it utilizes technological products and social media to organize virtual exhibitions and performances.
Dr. Miroto through his paper tried to describe whether virtual dance will become the new normal in the academy. Furthermore, Tommy F. Awuy said that the aspect of technology that is present in society and technology as a human achievement is difficult to reject even though many reject it. Technology changes the value system of society, civilization and the mentality of society. Finally, Garin Nugroho described various artistic activities carried out by various communities to foreign countries while adhering to health protocols. Papers from the speakers can be accessed through the website ISI Yogyakarta. Hopefully, this seminar will be able to provide answers that art education institutions are able to live with a new and better normal.
