Lembaga Teater Perempuan (LTP) M.A.S. Yogyakarta in collaboration with Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, and the Lemhannas Alumni Family Association (IKAL) Batch '49 presents Musical Theater Performance THE VORTEX OF LOVE (A Streetcar Named Desire) The work of Tennessee Williams. Translation by Toto Sudarto Bachtiar, with Director Prof. Dr. Yudiaryani, M.A and Astrada Bambang Wartoyo. The performance took place at Balai Sarbini Building, Plaza Semanggi, Jakarta on Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7, 2020 at 19.30-22.00 WIB.

About A Streetcar Named Desire  (WHIRLPOOL OF LOVE)

The performance PUSARAN CINTAGE is a new interpretation of the original script entitled A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, American playwright.

A Streetcar Named Desire is Tennessee Williams' greatest work, which won the Pulitzer Prize for dramatic literature and played on the US Broadway stage for two years without interruption.

This text shows the conflict between old-world (European) and new-world (American) values.

Conflicts of thought occur between elegance versus aggressiveness and materialism. The psychological conflict that occurs between the individual and his environment, between the individual and his own thoughts, hopes and fantasies.

What is the relevance of PUSARAN CINTAGE musical theater to the Indonesian audience?

  1. The musical theater performance PUSARAN CINTA is a portrait of the life of Indonesian society today. There is a strong relationship between the story and the life of the people in Indonesia, namely the struggle of marginalized people and the struggle of women's lives.
  2. Indonesia as a developing country has psychological and sociological impacts on people's lives. The materialism, capitalism and individualism typical of developed and metropolitan societies have also changed the way of thinking, mental constructs and attitudes, as well as the values of daily beliefs of people in Indonesia. There is even a new musical creativity that reinterprets jazz music by combining it with various traditional music genres. This is cultural resilience.
