Keinginan untuk lebih memperdalam dan menerapkan ilmu yang didapat ke dalam sebuah pertunjukan yang diproduksi sendiri oleh mahasiswa – mahasiswa yang tergabung dalam Himpunan Mahasiswa Jurusan (HMJ) juga menjadi salah satu dorongan mengapa diadakannya kegiatan Sepatu Menari ini. Berkaitan dengan Mata Kuliah Kreativitas, Manajemen Seni, dan Manajemen Produksi dirasa mempunyai hubung kait yang dapat saling mendukung dalam sebuah pertunjukan. Untuk itu maka penerapan yang berdasarkan dari ilmu pengetahuan yang didapat dari pembelajaran di bangku kuliah dicoba untuk dipraktekkan.
In order for the spirit of appreciation and development of creativity to be unlimited and to minimize boredom in the work, the Dance Department Student Association (HMJ) ISI Yogyakarta feels the need to form a forum with the above criteria. KKM Sepatu Menari as a breakthrough that can be the answer for all students who are gathered in HMJ Dance Faculty of Performing Arts and other artists who are willing to participate and show their existence not only within the scope of lectures but also able to increase their artistic response to the outside environment (environmental). All students who are members of the management of the HMJ Dance organization make KKM Sepatu Menari not only as a place for existence in work, but also as a space for practice in production and management of performing arts.
Dancing shoes are held every four weeks, the holding of dancing shoes aims to be a forum for the creativity of dance majors in dance. The dancing shoes that are held every four weeks are called regular dancing shoes. Dancing shoes are also held every two years, these dancing shoes are called Spectacular Dancing Shoes. Spectacular dancing shoes have the same purpose as regular dancing shoes, except that spectacular dancing shoes are a forum for the creativity of dance majors throughout art colleges in Indonesia, studios, and artists. Seeing the enthusiasm of the community for the spectacular Sepatu Menari Spektakuler event made dance majors who are members of the Dance Department Student Association to hold the fourth spectacular Sepatu Menari Spektakuler event again. We hope that this spectacular Sepatu Menari Spektakuler event can be held again for the next year. Because through this spectacular Sepatu Menari Spektakuler, a relationship between dance artists can be established and as a forum for dance artists to work.
The theme conceptualized in this activity is "The Body of Tradition in the Millennial Era", which means that the body of traditions that have existed since long ago, and then processed with creativity so as to produce innovation from each work that will be presented. The organized activity is called "Sepatu Menari Spektakuler 5". This type of activity involves art universities throughout Indonesia, studios, art communities that will be organized by students of the Dance Department of the Faculty of Performing Arts, Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta.
