Suphanburi College of Fine Arts Thailand is organizing national and international art and cultural dissemination and exchange projects as well as art workshops at the Suphanburi College of Fine Arts for the year 2024. The aim is to facilitate a collaborative exchange of art and cultural education between faculties, renowned artists, designers, and students from Thailand and abroad under the theme “Contemporary Art on the Thai Kings’ Bond with the Land of Thailand.” This initiative allows academics and the general public to exchange techniques, methods, and formats with Thailand and international artists.
The activity, which aims to establish cooperation between countries in the development of arts and culture, was conducted over five days, from July 24 to 28, 2024. The event was attended by ten countries consisting of Indonesia, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, India, South Korea, Viet Nam, Cambodia, the Philippines, and Thailand artists as hosts. This event also involved academics and students from several universities in Thailand, including the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute and Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University. The Faculty of Fine Arts of ISI Yogyakarta assigned Lutse Lambert Daniel Morin S.Sn., M.Sn and Nor Jayadi, M.Sn. to represent Indonesia.
The activities commenced with an opening ceremony and a symposium of royal history and the birthday of the King of Thailand. The event was led by Nattapat Suwannaprateep from the Kingdom of Thailand and included 100 artists from all invited and hosting countries. Fine arts workshops in this event include sculptures, ceramics, painting, printmaking, mixed media, lacquer, and decorative art. Alongside the workshops, participants also visited the rice farming center in Na Hia Chai to learn about Thailand’s agricultural culture, as well as sacred architecture in Suphan Buri Province and the 100-year-old Sam Chuk Market.
The event marked significant progress in international cooperation, especially with the Indonesia Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta, Hanoi Architectural University Vietnam, and Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University. It is also hoped that this initiative will enhanced academic experience and perspective among institutions and artists.
As part of these activities, Suphanburi College of Fine Arts facilitated communication in establishing cooperation between ISI Yogyakarta and Hanoi Architectural University from Vietnam. The discussions on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was one of the main focuses of the meeting. This MoU is expected to strengthen academic relations and create opportunities for various joint projects in the future.
In addition to the discussion of the MoU, it is anticipated that ISI Yogyakarta will exhibit artworks showcasing the work of lecturers and students, to be displayed in Vietnam. The exhibition aims to introduce diversity and creativity in the fields of art and architecture. As part of the collaboration, there are plans for an exchange of lecturers between the two universities.
Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University Thailand, which also participated in this event, showed great interest in extending the existing MoU in 2024 with ISI Yogyakarta. Silpakorn University hopes to also establish exchanges for master’s students and art workshops between lecturers and students in Thailand. Their flagship programs include lecturer exchanges, which are considered an important step to improve the quality of education and research in the arts.
With this collaboration, it is hoped that the relationships between universities can grow even closer, paving the way for broader collaborations in the future and making a significant contribution to the development of arts and architecture education in the region.
Next year, Suphanburi College of Fine Arts will again invite international participants, including ISI Yogyakarta, to participate in the same workshop, providing opportunities for lecturers and students to engage in deep creative activities.
