At 42 years old, ISI Yogyakarta continues to strengthen its role as an art higher education institution that not only produces works but also contributes thoughts, values, and impact to society.

According to the Dean of FSMR, recorded media arts hold a very strategic position in the digital era. Photography, film, television, animation, video, and digital media are no longer just tools for documentation, but have also evolved into a language of civilization. Through recorded media, humans can read life, understand social realities, and build human consciousness.

“A camera is not just a tool for framing an object, but a window to understanding people. A lens is not just an optical device, but also a perspective. Editing is not just a technical process, but also an ethical process,” said the Dean of FSMR in his remarks.

This series of activities features an art exhibition, film, video, and animation screenings, an international symposium on “Artistic Intelligence,” art and cultural workshops, and an open-air cinema for the public. The event brings together students, lecturers, alumni, artists, academics, practitioners, partners, and the public in a space for creative dialogue.

The Faculty of Recorded Media Arts (FSMR) at ISI Yogyakarta, as the implementer of this event, presents works from various study programs, namely Photography, Film and Television, Film and Television Production, and Animation. These works are the result of the learning process, creative exploration, research, and reflection on various social and humanitarian phenomena amidst the digital era and artificial intelligence.

In the realm of photography, the works displayed explore diverse perspectives on human life, social relationships, cultural identity, environmental change, and human responses to technological advancements. The photography in this exhibition is positioned not merely as a medium for recording reality, but also as a space for testimony, interpretation, and dialogue between facts, technology, and humanity.

Meanwhile, the Film and Television Study Program showcases works in the form of film scripts, short fiction films, documentaries, dance films, and video art. These works demonstrate how the younger generation and lecturers interpret issues of identity, family, digital privacy, the environment, social relations, and the spiritual dimensions of humanity. Amidst increasingly sophisticated technological capabilities in producing images and stories, these film works affirm that human capacity for feeling, empathy, and meaning-making remains the core foundation of art.

The Film and Television Production Study Program presents documentary works, experimental films, fictional films, film posters, comic illustrations, and tourism videos. These works demonstrate the expanding field of work in recording media arts, not only in the film and television industry but also in cultural documentation, tourism promotion, creative industries, and collaborative visual content development with partners.

The Animation Study Program presents 39 works in various forms, ranging from games, short animations, animated commercials, character designs, digital illustrations, interactive storybooks, story bibles, to interactive motion capture-based animations. These works demonstrate that artificial intelligence can be a partner in creative exploration, as long as ideas, empathy, social awareness, and human values remain at the core of creation.

The Dean of the Faculty of Recording Media Arts at ISI Yogyakarta emphasized that this activity is part of FSMR's efforts to build an adaptive, innovative, and humanistic recording media arts ecosystem. As a faculty that covers photography, film, television, animation, and digital media, FSMR has the responsibility to continuously develop creativity based on academic values, social sensitivity, technological advancements, and ethical responsibility.

The presence of international partners, artists, and academics also strengthens ISI Yogyakarta's position as an arts campus actively building cross-cultural and cross-border conversations. Through the involvement in Project Eleven and other international networks, this activity serves as a space for exchanging ideas about the relationship between art, technology, and human experience.

Founder of Project Eleven, Konfir Kabo, stated that art is not just a form of expression, but an active space where ideas, questions, and futures are negotiated. According to him, amidst the major changes in creative production due to artificial intelligence and digital systems, the role of artists becomes even more crucial in providing direction through sensitivity, critical thinking, and life experience.

This exhibition and screening of works is not only a celebration of our anniversary, but also an academic and cultural statement by ISI Yogyakarta in facing the challenges of the times. Through “Narrating Humanity,” ISI Yogyakarta asserts that the development of artificial intelligence must be interpreted critically, creatively, and ethically, without detaching art from its human roots.

This activity simultaneously strengthens ISI Yogyakarta's branding as an art higher education institution capable of responding to global changes, building international networks, developing a creative ecosystem, and producing works and thoughts relevant to society. Thus, ISI Yogyakarta continues to solidify its role as a globally competitive center of excellence for art and culture, while remaining grounded in human values, creativity, and social responsibility.

Yogyakarta, 22 Juni 2026 — Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta kembali menegaskan posisinya sebagai perguruan tinggi seni terdepan yang adaptif terhadap perkembangan zaman melalui penyelenggaraan Pameran dan Penayangan Karya Seni Media Rekam bertajuk “Narrating Humanity: Kesadaran Sosial dan Kreativitas Seni Media Rekam di Era Artificial Intelligence.” dalam rangka Dies Natalis ke-42 ISI Yogyakarta.
