The forum discusses the strengthening of international cultural partnerships, ranging from the development of educational programs to opportunities for creating collaborative cross-border creative projects.

In the forum, Dr. Irwandi was present as one of the speakers along with several international figures, including representatives from the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Rector of Kazan State Institute of Culture, and leaders and academics from arts and cultural institutions in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Niger, Senegal, and Nigeria.

The presence of the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta in this forum marks an important momentum for strengthening ISI Yogyakarta's position as an Indonesian higher education institution for the arts actively engaged in global academic and cultural networks. This participation also demonstrates ISI Yogyakarta's strategic role in expanding international cooperation in the fields of art education, academic exchange, cultural research, faculty and student mobility, and the development of cross-national creative projects.

The “International Cultural Partnerships” session specifically highlights the importance of cultural cooperation between the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Tatarstan. The discussion focused on creating collaborative spaces that can strengthen intergovernmental relations through education, culture, humanitarian cooperation, and joint creative projects.

This forum also places digital technology as one of the important concerns in the development of cultural partnerships. The utilization of digital platforms and online technologies is considered to be able to broaden access to cultural resources, strengthen intercultural dialogue, and open new opportunities for the dissemination of knowledge, artworks, and creative practices across countries.

For ISI Yogyakarta, participation in KazanForum 2026 holds strategic value. As a higher education institution for the arts with strengths in performing arts, fine arts and design, media arts, and cultural studies, ISI Yogyakarta can play a role in introducing Indonesia's rich art and culture to a global level. On the other hand, this forum also opens opportunities for ISI Yogyakarta to build academic and creative collaborations with art institutions from Russia, Central Asia, Africa, and Islamic countries.

Dr. Irwandi's involvement in the international forum also underscores the role of art universities in cultural diplomacy. Art is not only viewed as an aesthetic expression but also as a medium for dialogue, exchange of ideas, and strengthening inter-nation relations. Through art education and joint creative projects, universities can contribute to building trust, cross-cultural understanding, and sustainable cooperation.

KazanForum 2026 is an international forum that brings together various stakeholders from the economic, education, cultural, technological, investment, halal industry, diplomacy, and international cooperation sectors. In this context, the participation of ISI Yogyakarta is part of the effort to expand Indonesia's role, especially in the arts and culture sector, in the global conversation about the future of international cooperation.

Through this participation, ISI Yogyakarta is not only present as an institution of higher art education, but also as a representation of Indonesian cultural strength that has great potential to contribute to international cooperation networks. This involvement is expected to open up follow-up opportunities in the form of academic cooperation, exchange of artists and academics, joint program development, and cross-border creative work production that brings Indonesian cultural values to the world stage.

Kazan, Tatarstan, Rusia — Rektor Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi, S.Sn., M.Sn., terlibat dalam forum internasional XVII International Economic Forum “Russia–Islamic World: KazanForum” 2026 yang diselenggarakan di Kazan Expo International Exhibition Center, Republik Tatarstan, Rusia.
