This activity aims to introduce practical solutions for blind children aged 6-15 years to be more independent in daily eating activities. The students explained the concept and function of NetraSpoon, as well as providing an opportunity for children to try the tool directly. The visit was interactive, with positive responses from students and teachers who appreciated the innovative idea.

NetraSpoon is an ergonomic spoon designed specifically for visually impaired children. The tip of the spoon is made of food-grade teak wood in a 90° shape to be easily directed to the mouth, while the handle is made with 3D printing technology using PETG material that is sturdy and comfortable to hold. This innovation is equipped with a temperature sensor that detects the heat of the food and gives a subtle vibration to the handle, as a warning sign as well as a guide to the position of the food. This combination of technology and ergonomic design makes NetraSpoon a safe, functional and educational eating aid.

Similar activities continued at Yaketunis Yogyakarta on August 21, 2025, involving SLB and MTs students who are members of the educational institution. On this occasion, the NetraSpoon team conducted demonstration sessions, training on usage, as well as collecting feedback from accompanying teachers and students. The children seemed enthusiastic to try this innovative spoon, while the teachers gave suggestions regarding adjustments to the size and strength of the sensor vibrations to better suit the needs of early age users.

Through these two visits, the NetraSpoon team managed to strengthen cooperation with special education institutions and expand the reach of inclusion-based product research. This innovation not only functions as a tool, but also as an educational tool to foster self-confidence and independence for blind children in carrying out their daily activities. It is hoped that the results of the activities at Elsafan Jakarta and Yaketunis Yogyakarta can be the first step towards further development and mass production of NetraSpoon as a disability-friendly dining aid by the nation's children.

NetraSpoon ergonomic feeding aid
