Yogyakarta, October 3, 2025 - Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta held the 7th International Conference on Performing Arts (ICPA) 2025, with the theme \"Intermediality in Performing Arts: Theater, Film, Technology, and Creative Industries in the Era of Artificial Intelligence\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This conference is the flagship activity of the Faculty of Performing Arts ISI Yogyakarta. This activity took place on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 08:30 to 15:30 WIB, at the Concert Hall ISI Yogyakarta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The theme of \"intermediality\" in this conference refers to the synergy between different media, genres and art forms in a single performance work. Today, the use of visual media, film, digital installations and artificial intelligence (AI) are no longer decorative additions, but central elements in the creation, production and experience of performance art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Intermediality in the performing arts refers to the interaction and collaboration of various media, genres and art forms in one work. Intermediality is no longer as simple as using video projection in theater performances, or using static cinematography techniques in recorded theater performances. The development of technology, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI), has radically and exponentially redefined the approach to performing arts. AI has turned into a new entity that can very well be a creator, collaborator, and even a performer itself. This conference aims to build a critical dialog space between academics, artists, and practitioners to explore the interdisciplinarity of performing arts that is currently taking place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this situation, AI is seen not only as a supporting tool, but can be the creator, collaborator, and even actor in the artwork. This phenomenon raises critical questions: how do humans, as artists, process the ideas and distinctiveness of cultural heritage in the \"container\" of new technology? What is the role of ethics, creative authority, or tradition in dealing with the meaningfulness of \"hybrid\" works?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This conference aims to be a forum for dialog between academics, artists, and practitioners to examine cross-disciplinary performing arts in the technological era. ICPA 7 collaborated with several overseas universities by presenting several key speakers, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In addition to presentation sessions, the conference was also enlivened with art performances as part of a series of activities, such as \"Kunti's Last Hug\" by Dr. Yosef Adityanto Aji, M.Sn. (held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, 20:00-21:00 at Auditorium Theater) and \"Sih Semu Ing Lelabuh\" by Wahid Nurcahyono, M.Sn. (held on Friday, October 3, 2025, 20:00-21:00 at FSP Arena Theater).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
